One World Trade Centre is completed, after the loss of the previous building in a terrorist attack some years prior.

In May an attack occurs in Orlando, Florida on a nightclub frequented by members of the LBGTI community in that city.

The film industry in Vancouver continues to expand.

Star Trek: Discovery starts streaming on CBS All Access (which would be renamed to Paramount + in 2021). It is the first new Star Trek in over a decade.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi released. It would prove divisive.

Barbados holds a referendum on whether to become a republic. This fails, but another one in 2021 would pass.

Costa Rica gains full independence from Mexico. (Previously having a kind of Dominion Status).

Deforestation continues in the Amazon.


Europe
In the United Kingdom the Brexit referendum is held. The unexpected result is 54% in favor of leaving the European Union.

Various Alt right candidates lose their elections. (Any attempts to duplicate Trump failed.)

In Spain, the Galian, Basque and Catalonian Goverments begin discussing the possibility of independence referendums.

In Russia, Putin purges the remaining Rationalist influence in the Duma. He also bans all films that portray the country in a negative light.

Tuva is annexed by Russia following a ‘Referendum’.
